At our last meeting we had 21 families which included 43 children (I think I counted that right!) which is our biggest turn-out yet and I'm still being contacted almost weekly by new people wanting information, investigating home ed or wanting to come along.
I suppose this is a popular time of year for researching alternatives to school as it is several months into the new term, when parents feel they have given new arrangements, new school year, new schools, or new teachers a fair chance and if they are not working by now, then it's time to look into new options.
For anyone who is new to the idea of home ed, or who is tenatively looking for information, here are some good places to start nationally:
Education Otherwise - the national organisation which offers contact lists, local contact people to chat to about your concerns, model letters to deregister from school, information on the law, information on special needs home education, and much more.
HEAS - another national home education support organisation with contact lists and information.
Locally, there is a lot going on in Surrey, just check out our links section on the right hand side for various local groups and sources of information.
And for anyone currently just embarking on the journey that is home education - good luck, and don't worry. Everyone is scared at first, but you'll soon find the pattern that suits you and your family and wish you'd done it years ago!
